First and Second Kings

I Kings 2:1 - 3:15 - Will Cass

In this tremendous message, Solomon brings the nation together for a great feast.  What an excellent reminder to us that singing, dancing and being joyful is a wonderful part of our experience with God.  Sometimes today we get the impression from certain Christians that the more somber our worship is that this means we're more holy, not so!  It's at night after this great feast that Solomon has the memorable occasion of asking the Lord for anything he wants!  Think of your desire for a minute...is it safe to say that you and I don't have all the answers?  If we were asked whatever we desired, how glorious would it be if our response to God was to say, "give me what I need to follow You"!!

One of the greatest examples of wisdom and discernment is on display in the message from the life of King Solomon!  Two mothers, two newborns...but one has died.  Who's who and how will Solomon judge?  Join us in listening to this lesson reminding us that God will vindicate us.  We can come to a good judge and He will make all things right!  Plus there's a wonderful picture of Jesus Christ's self-sacrificing love shown thru the true mother.

Imagine building your long awaited new home and when you set the main foundation stone, you set it really crooked!  Wouldn’t that have a dramatic effect on the rest of your new home?  Of course it would.  This study from Solomon’s building of the Temple tells us the story of the chief cornerstone being cast away.  Sound familiar?  Jesus said that He is THE chief cornerstone!  When a church…or person, rejects the Word of God (Jesus) today, they have in fact rejected the source of setting all things straight!  Everything is off.

Also come take a look at the awesome picture of resting in Christ’s redemptive work, pictured here with the masonry work in the building of the Temple!  Plus what’s the significance to the fact that there was no Ark in the Holy of Holies when Jesus died and the veil was ripped open?  Come see!

In this fascinating study of God's Word, the Lord will challenge us to consider how much effort we put into the things of the Lord and how much time we put into selfish things.  Are you up for a challenging message?  King Solomon is making great offerings to the Lord here at the Temple and what a joyous time.  Why joyous?  Because they offered to the Lord from a willing and humble heart!  Plus, in this message, can God challenge you to consider if there is more than your church that is serving the Lord in your community?

I Kings 11:26 - 13:34 - Will Cass

This fascinating study looks at the very beginning of the Divided Kingdom, just after the death of King Solomon.  Israel's new king in the north, King Jeroboam, and Judah's new king in the south, King Rehoboam, each have the opportunity to become ice or concrete.  Let me explain.  If you put new ice and new concrete outside under the same sun, it will affect them in totally different ways.  To one heart the Sun of God will come down and harden it, but to another heart the Sun of God will melt them until they're a flexible, shapable object.  Have YOU been born again with a flexible new heart?

When you are with the Lord in personal time or at church, what makes it meaningful?  Forget all the peripherals and religious rituals, if we can walk away knowing that we've heard the truth from the Lord, then it was meaningful.  In this message, we'll be challenged to drop the pretense and false images we present of ourselves in order to accept what the Lord wants to say to us.  God can see who we really are.  We may want to go where God is leading or He may just drag us that direction anyway...remember Jonah?

Plus, this lesson will teach us about the High Places and groves that the Divided Kingdom of Israel started using to worship false gods.  It seems so horrible that God's people, Israel, became entangled in such horrible sexual idolatry and false religion.  Wait.  That sounds just like...America.  Let's learn the lesson of how to flourish for the Lord though surrounded by such sins.

I Kings 15:1-32 - Will Cass

Isn't is interesting how we can get so caught up is some real fine details about life that won't really matter in 20, 50 or 40 years?  For instance that one hair that was out of place or needed plucked that we spend way too much time dealing with!  This message in I Kings is a great reminder how God looks down at us and summarizes a life in a sentence or two!  Wow!  For some of Israel's kings God remarks that they did that which was right, except they removed not the high places.  Let's just take the direct reference for a minute.  The high places were places of sexual sin.  Consider yourself, then others, let's not be the ones who fall for this common problem set before us!

Plus, in this message, King Asa is ready to serve the Lord even if it means removing the Queen of the land...his own Mother.  He begins a walk of faith and is later faced with the challenge of an army rising against him.  Will he continue in faith or turn his trust over to mere men to help him?

I Kings 17:8-24 - Will Cass

Think of your spiritual journey thru life in steps from A all the way thru life until finally step Z.  Pretend you're currently at step L.  Now, If God asked you to accomplish step X or Y, you, like most of us, wouldn't be able to accomplish it.  This message is a great lesson in dealing, in faith, with the situation that God has in front of us today.  Elijah is being widdled down spiritually, being fed by ravens at the brook, only to then be refined spiritually by being sustained by a Gentile woman.  Would Elijah have accepted food from an unclean widow if not first receiving from an unclean raven?  Let us not despise the work and widdling process that God has set before us!

Plus, in this message we'll discuss resurrection of the body, is there something called 'soul-sleep'?  Our minds can imagine crazy things if we allow them to be taken over by drugs or things that can cause altered states of conciousness.

Doesn't it seem like the world often tries to frame the Christians as the trouble-makers?  "Those Christians are always trying to shove their religion down your throat"!  "Those Christians are trying to take away women's 'reproductive rights'"!  This very direct message from God's Word is the showdown between Elijah and King Ahab, in which Ahab point-blank pins Israel's troubles on Elijah.  In God's powerful clarity he points out that the trouble, in any given situation, is caused by the one who has forsaken God's commandments!

Plus this lesson includes the famous message, so timely for today, that Elijah delivers declaring, "how long will we halt between two opinions, If God is god serve Him, but if something else is god then serve it."  When was the last time you found yourself putting something as a higher priority than the thing that you know God wanted you to do?  Is God's desire for you always your priority?  Jesus so much desires to bless us if we'll only seek to glorify and elevate Him in ALL that we do!

Do you find that your faith wavers?  Some days we're read to take on the world for Christ and others days one person can make us turn tail and run!  Don't be discouraged, we're in good company because Elijah was in the same boat as us and God used him to accomplish great things!  In this message, Elijah has has just  shown the glory of God in a spectacular way in front of all the false prophets, but now finds himself running 80 miles away from Queen Jezebel and her threats.

In hiding, Elijah now just asks God to allow him to die.  He could have asked that back home BEFORE running away.  Isn't it interesting that when we put ourselves in a bad place, outside of God's will, everything seems exaggerated and worse?  What will God do in reaching out to Elijah to restore his faith?  What does God want to do in reaching out to you to restore your faith?  Find out in this astounding message from God's Word!

Have you ever felt like saying, "God won't help me because I've messed up too many times."  This compelling message from First Kings shows God using ever wicked King Ahab to fulfil his purposes.  God wants to show how glorious He is by helping Israel defeat the Syrians, in Ahab's day, and by helping us reveal God to people we know today.  Will you let Jesus use you today to show his glory to others in your life?

Plus, we'll see some great analogies that teach us how to life a victorious Christian life.  For instance, we shouldn't just wipe out sin, but also wipe out sin's chances of coming back again!

If the majority of people around you say that abortion is ok, would you stand up and dissent?  What is the majority of ‘Christians’ around you say that homosexuality is ok, would you stand up and dissent?  The only way to know the truth from a lie is to be intimately familiar with the real thing!  In this message, Ahab has is 400 ‘prophets’ giving him false prophecies (that have good outcomes for Ahab), but there’s one prophet that is willing to stand up and dissent.

Plus, we’ll get a sneak peak into some spiritual warfare with a lying spirit.  Also, insight into the dangers of mingling true Christianity with false worship.  Why would some churches use the term the “Queen of Heaven” to speak of Mary when the bible uses this title to refer to a false god?

"The world's randomness is God's planned intention."  King Ahab has decided to go to battle against God's plan, therefore, he' told by the prophet that his life will be taken in the process.  However, Ahab is smarter than God!  Oh yes, he plans to disguise himself in battle as just another man and then he'll be safe, right?  No, a Syrian pulled back a bow at random and struck Ahab that he died.  How foolish of Ahab to think he could hide from God!  .....have we ever done that?  .....we know God's design for 'this' or 'that' and we know that consequence for not handling it the right way, then why do we try to "beat the system".

One of the most basis sins that we face is hiding from or trying to deceive God.  Adam and Even tried it, Jonah tried it, we've tried it.  "If we confess with our mouths....."
